Families First Coronavirus Response Act

Dear campus community,

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, the federal Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) was enacted in March to address the impact of COVID-19 on the U.S. The FFCRA provides eligible employees with emergency paid sick leave and expanded family medical leave for specified reasons related to COVID-19. Its provisions went into effect April 1 and will remain in effect through Dec. 31.

On April 1, William Roper, interim president of the University of North Carolina System, issued a regulation in The Code and UNC Policy Manual (Section 300.2.15[R]) that addresses the implementation and applicability of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act and employee eligibility. NC State began implementing the Families First Coronavirus Response Act on May 1.

NC State employees can request emergency paid sick leave and expanded family medical leave through MyPack Portal. To make a request, log into the portal, then click and fill out the “FFCRA Leave Request Form.” Employees must submit all emergency paid sick leave and expanded family medical leave requests through the portal using the request form.

For more information about the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, including the qualification criteria for emergency paid sick leave and expanded family medical leave, visit the University Human Resources website.
