Classification and Compensation

The Classification and Compensation unit plays a vital role in this by aligning our organizational structures and compensation with our core values. We provide strategic solutions and expert guidance, ensuring our processes are responsive to market changes and organizational needs, all while maintaining fiscal responsibility. Our methodologies are aligned with and adhere to the policies established by the UNC System Office and the Office of State Human Resources (OSHR).
Classification
Administering the foundational structure for permanent positions in accordance with occupational categorization methods that are compatible with federal and state labor laws and universally recognized descriptions of work. Areas of specialization include: Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidance, criteria and designation, JCAT (job category) coding and formalization and maintenance of position descriptions.
Compensation
Total compensation received by an employee for their work encompasses various forms of monetary compensation and is administered by University HR’s classification and compensation unit. Whether it is through base salary, supplemental pay, additional compensation or bonuses, we ensure pay is compliant to established policies and regulations and remains equitable to higher education standards.
