Employee Tuition Assistance
Employee Tuition Assistance is offered to support employees in furthering their education. Employees may receive financial reimbursement for tuition fees, textbooks, and other educational expenses incurred while pursuing approved courses or degrees.
Employee Learning and Development Policy
The State of North Carolina’s Employee Learning and Development allows University departments to reimburse permanent employees for the costs of both non-academic and academic activities that are job-related.
Eligible courses are those that are beneficial to both the employee and the University; directly related to the employee’s present responsibilities or field of work; and are required to complete an academic degree program directly related to the employee’s field of work.
The policy is governed by North Carolina General Statutes and Administrative Code provisions.
Tuition Waiver Program
This program allows eligible employees to have the tuition waived for a course taken at any of the constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina System. Please note that not all classes and programs are eligible for tuition waivers to be used. It is the employee’s responsibility to verify with the program/department if they allow for the use of tuition waivers.
Up to three classes per academic year may be waived, but only ONE summer session can be waived. Check with the campus you are taking classes at for summer session use.
The waiver is available to employees of the University System who work 75% time or greater and contribute to the retirement system.
