Expiration of Families First Coronavirus Response Act and Other Leave Updates
The federal Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which provides emergency paid sick leave and extended family medical leave for specific reasons related to the COVID-19 pandemic, is scheduled to expire Dec. 31.
University Human Resources is awaiting confirmation from the University of North Carolina System as to whether the leave program will be extended. UHR will continue to monitor the status of this program and communicate updates when the information becomes available. The UHR benefits leave team will contact faculty and staff who are enrolled in the leave program to discuss other leave options.
Other COVID-19 Leave Programs
Some employees have received paid time off through the use of other COVID-19 leave programs. UHR will provide updates on those leave programs as soon as we receive guidance from the UNC System.
COVID-19 Voluntary Shared Leave
Good News! The University of North Carolina System has extended the COVID-19 voluntary shared leave program to March 31, 2021. Hours that employees have donated to NC State’s COVID-19 Voluntary Shared Leave Bank will rollover to 2021. The COVID-19 Voluntary Shared Leave Bank will allow leave-earning NC State employees to donate leave time to other leave-earning employees who have exhausted their accrued leave (both current and future).
