From Cow to Cone: The Making of Howling Cow Ice Cream

July is National Ice Cream Month, so you know what that means: It’s time to do your civic duty and enjoy a scoop of NC State’s very own ice cream at the Howling Cow Dairy Education Center and Creamery

Developed in a lab in the 1940s, NC State’s ice cream has evolved from a treat you could only enjoy on campus to a staple of the North Carolina State Fair. Gary Cartwright and Carl Holifield established the Howling Cow brand in 2008, and it’s available at locations across campus and Harris Teeter stores throughout the state.
