AVC Corner: The Passing of the Baton in HRIM

Colleagues,

One of the things I enjoy about working in University Human Resources is the immensely talented people I work with daily.

Sadly, one of those people, Todd Driver, the former director of Human Resources Information Management and Analytics, recently retired. Todd began his career at NC State in 1992 in the Provost’s Office, where he worked as an applications programmer. In 2002, the section of that office that Todd worked in merged with UHR.

Todd spent the rest of his career working in UHR. He provided steadfast strategic leadership in implementing many critical HR system enhancements for UHR and the university. His last day at NC State was May 11.

Todd was an invaluable member of the UHR team. I will greatly miss him and his unique humor, as will the rest of his UHR colleagues.

“I enjoyed working at NC State,” Todd said. “I have seen a lot of progress and a lot of change.

“The thing I have enjoyed most about working at NC State is the people. I always worked around a good group of people in HR.”

While Todd’s departure from NC State is bittersweet, I am thrilled that a search team has selected Ryan Bernarduci to succeed Todd as director of HRIM and Analytics. Ryan came to NC State nearly 10 years ago from the Florida Department of Children and Families, where he worked in human resources. He has spent all his time at NC State working in UHR.

In 2018, UHR created an analytics unit. Ryan was chosen to head that unit and has done an outstanding job getting the unit off the ground. I know he will do an equally amazing job in his new role.

“I am excited about the opportunity,” Ryan said. “I am excited about what the future holds for the HRIM and UHR. I think Todd has made a significant impact that I can build upon.”

As Ryan continues to advance in his career, he has shown a deep commitment and passion to learn more about the field of data analytics. He will complete his third master’s degree — a master’s in analytics from Ohio University — in January 2022. Ryan’s expertise in analytics has been a vitally important asset for UHR and the university.

He has already earned a Master of Business Administration from Ohio University and a master’s degree in human resources management from Nova Southeastern University.

“I think Ryan is going to be a tremendous help to the university,” Todd said. “I think he has a ton of potential. I can’t say enough good things about him.”

Todd and Ryan greatly respect each other, and it was nice to see Todd pass the baton of leadership to Ryan before exiting NC State. Please join me in congratulating both of them.

Best regards,

Marie Williams
