Take Advantage of Career Resources

Career Development

University Human Resources encourages employees to take advantage of opportunities for professional development. Some of our campus partners offer resources that might be useful as you seek opportunities for career advancement at NC State. Information about two of these resources is presented below:

Virtual Career Center

In March, Alumni Career Services launched a virtual career center. The center’s resources are targeted toward five communities: young professionals, midcareer professionals, experienced career professionals, career changers and returners to work. The center offers each community a slew of articles and other career-related resources, including a salary calculator, a list of transferable skills and things to consider when deciding whether to go to graduate school. The center’s resources are available to NC State employees.

Alumni Career Services created the center to be a resource for job seekers and those looking for professional development guidance, said Anna Velleggia, director of Alumni Career Services.

“This guide is really for anybody,” Velleggia said. “There’s just a lot of interactive and up-to-date resources that are constantly evolving.”

Career Guide

Although the Career Development Center created its career guide as a resource for students, some parts of the 50-page guide can be beneficial to employees. Among the sections employees might find helpful are those providing tips on resume writing, cover letters, thank-you letters and how to create a LinkedIn profile.

“I think the guide offers really good career guidance and advice,” said Cara Doyle, communications manager for the Career Development Center.
